Dajia Mazu is regarded as “Rain Mazu”
or “Water-crossed Mazu” by south Taiwan people because her pilgrimage always
brings spring rain and timely rain for the cities and the villages on her way
to the destination. The working members of the pilgrim group often get wet in
the rain, but they don’t care. They all think that Mazu prepares a good rain
for the people. It rains on the pilgrimage, but the big burning incense plugged
in the leading flag has never been wetted and distinguished. Besides, over the
past 100 years it has never rained in her grand birthday celebration.
Thus, it is very clear that Mazu is very
powerful!
Save Military Workers in South Ocean (Malay
Archipelago)
During the period of World War II the young
men in Da Jia area were drafted (by Japan) to Malay Archipelago as military
workers. Before they left home, they came to Chen Nan Palace to beg for an
Incense Fire bag for safety blessing.
It is said that several military workers
taking a siesta heard that Mazu cried out “Bomb falls!”. They ran away
immediately. In a few seconds, the US bombers bombed the place where they just
slept. After Taiwan was restored, those military workers returned home. Every
year they followed Mazu’s sedan chair to go on pilgrimage in order to repay
Mazu for saving their lives.
